Massage & Lotion Bars

Shea/Cocoa Butter Lotion Bars:

  • 2 oz. cocoa butter
  • 2 oz. shea butter
  • 2 oz. beeswax
  • 15 - 20 drops Essential Oil

Melt cocoa butter and beeswax in microwave or double boiler. Remove from heat and stir in shea butter and essential oils. Keep stirring until all of the shea butter is melted and incorporated and then pour into molds. These lotion bars will really take care of those rough spots that develop during the winter months.

    Scentual Scents Bar

  • 5 ounces cocoa butter
  • 1 ounce shea butter
  • 1/4 tsp each Clary Sage essential oil, Ylang Ylang essential oil and Geranium essential oil

Melt the cocoa butter, remove from heat and stir in the shea butter. Continue stirring and as the mixture cools, stir in the essential oils. The heat from the melted cocoa butter will be enough to melt the shea butter and adding the shea butter to a cooling mixture prevents the grainy texture shea butter sometimes has. This bar can also be left unfragranced or fragrance with the essential or fragrance oils of your choice. Pour the mixture into molds and to make your bars set up faster, place in your fridge.

A softer bar will often have some liquid oil and many also contain beeswax. The following can be made harder or softer by increasing or decreasing the beeswax.

    Basic Bar

  • 1 ounce cocoa butter
  • 1 ounce beeswax
  • 1 ounce oil such as sweet almond or grapeseed
  • 1 ounce shea butter

Melt together the oils and beeswax, remove from heat and stir in the shea butter. You can add the fragrance of your choice but be sure to make sure your melted oils are cooling before adding the fragrance or pouring into molds. Some molds do not take extreme heat. If you are allergic to chocolate or don't like the smell of cocoa butter, you can leave it out and just use beeswax, oil and shea butter.
